Game 138 • Orioles at Red Sox • 7:10 PM

Baseball Reference Game Preview

David Hernanadez (4.54 ERA, 102 ERA+)
Clay Buchholz (4.40 ERA, 108 ERA+)

The Sox should have a clear path to the Wild Card spot -- all others have fallen out of competition, and our schedule appears so much easier than Texas' (Cafardo pg 2), who starts their double header today 2 1/2 games out.

But doubts about the rotation after Lester and Beckett remain. Who's our #3?

There's hope that everyone from Daisuke Matsuzaka to Michael Bowden will be able to help. But more than one commenter on Sons of Sam Horn has pointed to Clay Buchholz as the key to the rest of our season, and perhaps the postseason as well.

He was amazing last time out. Let's see how his maturation as an MLB pitcher is coming along tonight.

Red Sox
1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Victor Martinez, C
4. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
5. David Ortiz, DH
6. Jason Bay, LF
7. J.D. Drew, RF
8. Casey Kotchman, 1B
9. Alex Gonzalez, SS
SP -- Clay Buchholz, RHP

Orioles
1. Brian Roberts, 2B
2. Felix Pie, CF
3. Nolan Reimold, LF
4. Nick Markakis, RF
5. Melvin Mora, 3B
6. Matt Wieters, C
7. Luke Scott, DH
8. Ty Wigginton, 1B
9. Cesar Izturis, SS
SP -- David Hernandez, RHP

Cleveland trying to come back against Texas. They come to within 5-3 in the fifth, then get two men on in the sixth. TX manager (Ron Washington?) does the smart thing and bring in the 100-mph thrower they got from Atlanta, Neftali Perez, to shut it down "Fireman" style.

Zenslinger said...

...but Perez allows rare runs to score. 5-5.

OTT

Zenslinger said...

Indeed. And that OTT is especially nice to see after starting 3-0 vs. Roberts.

Evening all. Haven't watched a single game of the W.Sox series, but I'm watching this one, if the stream gods permit.

A Conformer said...

Fuck Yeah!

And fuck yeah, I'm delayed...

Unknown said...

SWEAT POWERED!!!

A Conformer said...

Not a bad first inning, I'd say.

A Conformer said...

HH looks nervous even when he's pitching well. Or talking to Heidi Watney, for that matter.

Unknown said...

OTT

A Conformer said...

OTTFFS.

SEA BASS!!!!

Patrick said...

WHOA! WTF was that? That dude flashed me, and furthermore, he had a dong!

A Conformer said...

Seabass is a slugging god.

A Conformer said...

I hadn't heard that Peña was done for the season. Man, the FKR are so out of it to become just the Rays again. Why waste good swear words on them?

Unknown said...

Another OTT

Patrick said...

I agree, Boss man sucks, Pena is out, Kazmir is gone. They're neither Devils nor Fucking. They simple are Rays.

A Conformer said...

OTTFFSSEN

FUCK FUCK YEAH YEAH

Unknown said...

HELL FUCKING YEAH!!!

Zenslinger said...

HH is becoming HHH.

Here's hoping he keeps it up to HHHH or even HHHHH levels.

It's a freakin' dong-a-thon out there.

5 doubles, 4 homers...A-Gon is slugging near .500 at the moment since coming back to us.

Patrick said...

SEN?

Zenslinger said...

Double FY, Jesus!

Unknown said...

"SEN?"

Seven, eight, nine

A Conformer said...

And I think he hasn't walked once.
...
Just checked it- his OBP is his BA, one for one.

Patrick said...

That would've been obvious if I hadn't mistaken FFS with For Fuck Sake.

Unknown said...

"Just checked it- his OBP is his BA, one for one."

He needs to get a SF or two and get an OBP lower than his BA

A Conformer said...

Seven, eight, nine

When we get to twenty, twenty one, etc. it will get really boring in the letter department, and really exciting in the game.

A Conformer said...

If Hernandez keeps this up, he might get tackled.

Unknown said...

Wow, already into their bullpen in the third inning

Patrick said...

FIRE SALE!!! EVERY DONG MUST GO!

Unknown said...

ON FUCKIN' FIRE!!!

Unknown said...

All five hits we have right now are home runs

A Conformer said...

"It's not funny, my dong is on fire
Paraplegic, inhuman liar."

A Conformer said...

Did Martinez just shake off HH?

Unknown said...

All right, at least the shutout is still intact

A Conformer said...

The Rangers won. They're not gonna make it easy, it seems.

Zenslinger said...

LaRoche continues to hit homers for the sputtering Braves.

Conformer, the WC is so ours to lose. Given the remaining schedule, it would be almost Mets-like of us not to make it.

That doesn't mean we're going to get anywhere if we do make the postseason, but we oughta at least be in there.

Unknown said...

Injury delay?

Benjamin said...

Martinez took a pitch on the inside of his hand, and the coaching staff came out to look at it. He's back to catching.

A Conformer said...

Zen, I agree, for sure. I just said the Rangers aren't gonna make it easy. So the Sox are not gonna be able to clinch early and rest everybody the last two weeks of the season.

Zenslinger said...

It's a cold fire...

Unknown said...

Really?!

We load the bases with none out and don't score?

A Conformer said...

If we weren't leading 8-0 that would be annoying.

Unknown said...

Yes

Or if Clay weren't pitching as well as he is

A Conformer said...

That was a NICE play by Yook.

Unknown said...

FLO!!!!

A Conformer said...

Well, it seems like we're on full laugher mode.

Greetings all.
Dice K makes his final rehab start tomorrow.

In the smallest arena he's pitched in in decades.
IN WINSTON-FUCKING-SALEM, NC!!

I went this morning and bought 6 tickets in the row RIGHT-FREAKING-BEHIND the visitor's dugout.

I not at all pumped, though

SoSock said...

Ah, September - there will be a lot of "who the hell is________" comments in the next few weeks.

Well, I hope there are. We probably won't be using the no-names so much if the race is still close and we're not holding a comfortable lead

A Conformer said...

Sosock, that sounds great. Don't forget to shout at him to "Throw fucking strikes!"

Unknown said...

WATER!

SoSock said...

Goes to show how un-baseball this town is. Hard to believe I could walk in there today and get those seats. 1st row over the dugout.
And this place is so small, even if we were the top row, it would be like the bottom section in a ML park.

SoSock said...

BTW Ofer. I've been perusing your blog when I have some time, which isn't very often actually.
But I'm enjoying the hell out it. Quite an adventure you've been on.
Glad you're willing to share it

A Conformer said...

Thanks, Sosock. At some point I'll write a bit about Asheville... I was just there again this weekend. Still love it.

SoSock said...

My favorite weekend getaway.
I'm only about an hour and a half from there.
My new-found buddies in the band play there a lot, too.

Makes sense. It's a great music town.
I'm glad you enjoy the blog... and you're welcome to write comments- I barely ever get any of those (-:

Cool - just went back over the box score. What a great outing for Clay. 7I, 3H, 5K, 1W, 0Runs
And to just use 2 pitchers - that's kinda like real baseball. Hope this starts a trend.
Of course, it is the O's, and not a gage of what we'll have to do to win a round in post-season. But it's a good start

The water is Muddy!!!

Especially with 6 dongs being swirled in it.
