With Lowell's dramatic first-pitch home run in his first at bat in the majors since June 22, the hope dashed by Youkilis's injury seemed to return. I haven't seen any word on whether MLB will levy fines for the mob scene that took place after Beltre took a pitch well east of his ass yesterday. But it's always great when your coaching staff gets angry enough to be right in the mix when the benches clear.
Last time we faced old friend Justin Masterson, he had one of his occasional very good games. This time will be different, I suspect.

How did Kevin Cash GET into the majors anyways?
Catching a good game, and the hope that he would learn to hit somehow, I suppose.
Lesteriffic.
All right, I'm going back to my tried & true avatar. Charlie Watts was getting a bit funerary on me there.
Genesis!
Perhaps a new beginning :)
Indeed.
Let's begin by getting to Masterson.
meunier - Good defensive catchers are always needed. Finding one that can hit is a key component to an above average team, but there aren't all that many out there, and rarely do you find a team that has more than one
Nice
3 Ks in the first 6 batters.
Double.
It's a good start.
I would have the 4 fingers up right here if I were the Cleveland manager.
I'm not sure you can get that many hot dogs at once. At least not in the dugout.
LaPorta gets lucky.
Damn, squanderage.
Why isn't Mikey playing tonight?
Er, why isn't Lester playing this inning?
Thank g.. for the pop-up
Wiggle Lester, wiggle!
He's the original Houdini. But Choo's their best hitter...
Well, a BB isn't much of a solution.
Damage limited..
Could have been a LOT worse
The sun shines on the dog's ass..
mofo
Boo. More squanderage.
In the "answering my own question" dept., or should I say "reiterating my own question dept. -
Cash and Lowell are both righties. Lowell hits abut equal vs. RHPs and LHPs. Cash on the other hand bats much worse vs RHPs than LHPs.
So given Lowell's nice return last night and a rightie on the mound tonight, why isn't V-Mart catching and Mikey at 1B?
Just, you know, saying
Granted - I bring this up AFTER Cash leads off last inning with a double, but...........
Nice to be seeing old friends like the Big Donkey and old foes like Ass Dribble.
Earlier this year there were a couple of discussions about how many balls Drew looks at. Now he's seen just 3 pitches in 2 abs and grounded out twice
Good evening, all. Damn, more squanderage....
I don't think we can get to Masterson tonight, the good news is they will have to use their bullpen though
Masterson putting up a lot of doughnuts. Why can't we get pitchers like....oh, never mind
We REALLY can't get a break tonight.
Cashed ball - bleh
That cannot POSSIBLY say "injury delay"!
This season has just been unbelievable. Please---no more injuries!
I'm afraid to ask. The ball was hit to right. Drew?
No, SoSock, it seemed Lester pulled something. But he stayed in. I guess we will see if he comes back out next inning.
Walk the #9 man. That's a start
Hey Everyone,
I've been watching, but too many things going on to thread. I'd like to win this one.
Damn. Another wasted opportunity.
This guy only pitches well against us, his former team.
Hey, MrsG. I'd like a W also. But we need the team to stop leaving guys on base....
OK, guess we are stuck with modding now. Damn troll
Yeah Mrs GT, a win would be good. Did anyone hear a noise a minute ago? I thought I heard a troll, but why would they be out after their team has coughed up their lead in the division? Mmmm, looking to soothe their angst a little?
I guess Tito should have taken him out, huh? That stinks.
Isn't this the team that gave up all their players and were supposed to be easy to beat?
and something is wrong with Lester
Well that just sux
SoSock, You probably missed it. Francona and the trainer came out again to look at Lester. He said he was fine and promptly gave up the home run on the next pitch.
Looking like Lester may have hurt himself after all. WTF?
Might be time
Amy and SoSock, I think the best response is absolutely no response.
OK, I'm going to try the shower mojo.
Let's be ahead when I get back plz
Yes, MrsG. DNFTT.
It's a good thing the Spiders' fan in my office is on vacation this week. I'm sure I'll hear about it next week though.
That was not an out at second.
Papi!!
Papi has such a sweet swing.
Well there's something
Lou Merloni, who's doing the color analysis on WEEI tonight, said, "That ball was hit a very long, long way by a bad, bad man."
Maybe I should call my friend in David's home country more often when he is at bat.
Amy, how is the grandbaby? Do you get to see him much?
Guess I should shower more often.
Since I left Atchison faced 2 batters and got 3 outs, Papi showed his dong, and V-Mart walks with no outs.
Rally Caps!
SoSock, you are going to be a very clean man.
SoSock, Get back to the showers!! What was JD doing swinging at that?
Damn, struck out on ball 4, according to GDGDs graphic
I have to wonder if Lester is playing hurt and if Doubront would be an equal or better option right now.
Thanks for asking, Mrs G. He is doing just great, now that his mom has settled in! We are going back to Brooklyn next week for a few days. My son in law will be away for work, and I am going to stay with my daughter and Nate. I can't wait! Even if it does mean interrupted sleep for a couple of nights.
SoSock, one can never shower enough in these circumstances!
Still MIN 1, TB 0.
I can't shower enough period. I just like showering.
That's some special time. My mom moved to my area when my daughter (her first grandchild) was one year old. Twenty years later, they still have a tremendous relationship.
Mets have had three errors in one inning vs. Atlanta.
I wish I could live closer or that they would move closer, but it's not a practical alternative since we all have jobs that we cannot give up. But at least it's just a car ride away. Three and half hours, but still...just a car ride away.
I've been very fortunate so far in that all of my kids, and therefore grandkids, are right here in town. But now the youngest son, Taylor, is getting ready to move to CA. He's been there several times, twice for extended stays, and loves it. He's 27, and the only one who's never married. I know he's wanted to go out there for years, but I think the family thing has kept him here. But now there's a CA girl in the picture. That seems to be the final straw it took to get him to move.
This season seems to be endless to me. It just seems nothing has gone right. I can't remember the last time I actually enjoyed watching a game... :(
Zen, we may have a three error inning soon also. Meet the Mets!
Well, this isn't good......
Is that 2 errors on throws to home in this game?
Yeah, this is not good. I had to go to The Bar.
ASS DRIBBLE.
SoSock, how many grandchildren do you have?
(May as well think about something pleasant since this game isn't bringing any joy.)
SoSock, that is nice for you to have them so close and nice for them too. I miss my brothers and their families (they are both in Georgia). California is a long way away, but if he's happy, it'll be okay.
Jeez, I hope their bullpen is as bad as it's reputation
Goodnight everybody..
Well, at least there is no reason for hope now. They have put us out of our misery.
Hooooly crap.
We should never have traded Andy Marte!
Okay, this now officially SUCKS!!!!
Well, at least I won't have to watch Papelbon tonight!
Heh heh, silver linings, Amy.
Yes, Zen. I always try to find something positive in these situations!
Wow. So as I try to ignore the carnage on the field......
I have 3 grandkids that I am actively involved with as a grandparent. 2 girls by my daughter, and 1 boy by the oldest son. 19, 12, and 7. (Yes 19, it's a long story) There are a couple of "step-grandchildren" as well that I rarely see.
Wow, you have lots of grandparent experience for such a young guy! I keep thinking that I am a young looking grandmother, but you must have been a mere child when you first became a grandfather!
And for a while, I thought I was the only JOS grandparent!
I can think of a few times earlier this season when we could have used 4-pitch innings from MDC.
Ha, a good inning from Del-Car!
Naturally it would come on a night when it doesn't really matter
Great minds, hm.
Rays have tied it against MIN, hitting the ball hard three times in a row.
# of doubles and HRs is pretty impressive on Beltre there.
Amy - since there's not much in Fenway to discuss. At least not without raising the blood pressure......
The daughter is not our biological child. We took her in when she was 12. She's older than either of our 2 sons, by several years. We were only 28 when that happened so if she were ours by birth we would have had her at the age of 16. Then, to complicate things, she ran away at 16, dissappeared for a year, and came back with a baby. So I, at the ripe old age of 52, have a 19, almost 20, year old granddaughter. That always makes people do a double-take :) You can see them starting to do the math.....
Beltre may be the most consistent player we have had all season.
Minnesota survives to go to extra innings.
And, back to baseball, I agree. Beltre has been a great pick-up. If you had told me HE would put up the numbers he has, and we would still be struggling as much as we are, I would have called you senseless.
SoSock, which of these people did I meet when you were in San Francisco?
LOL, SoSock! Yes, I was doing the math myself since I know you are several years younger than I am. I couldn't figure out how you became a grandfather in your 30s!! It sounds like you did a wonderful thing at a very young age, and I hope that you now see all the rewards of those tough years with your daughter.
I hope we can re-sign Beltre, but it seems all the gurus do not see that happening.
Of course, he did break a few ribs as well....
Zen, that was the younger son, Taylor, who is moving to your side of the slab. He was just finishing up a 7-month assignment there in CA and flew me out there to join him for a whirlwind tour of the state, and the drive back across the country. We were just getting starting when we met you. I think I had been out there for abpout 3 days then. It turned into a 2 week adventure.
Sounds like quite an adventure. Now I've met you, Allan and Laura from the blog. That's kind of cool.
Well, Zen, maybe we can get you to the East Coast for a JOS3 in Boston.
SoSock, you must be the only person besides Allan and Laura to have attended both JOS1 and JOS2!
Thank you Amy. I am very proud o how she has turned out, as was Cathy. Naturally, there have been rough spots, but all in all she has turned into a pretty damn good adult and mother. There were spells with the first child, who was mostly raised in her earliest years by her father and his mother. But April has become a very good mother to her and has been a model parent to the younger one. That would be Haley, my little 12 year old softball player. All-Star this year, no less!
Who'd have thought we'd lose two out of three to Cleveland?
I hate to be pessimistic, but I don't see this team being even close to a wild card.
Well, glad THAT's over.
Agua limpia :(
Talvez manana
Good night, all. Thanks for moderating, Zen.
My pleasure. Nice chat.
I'm from the East Coast, so it will happen one day. But many of my trips, like the one coming up in September, are quick trips just to see family in Lake George.
So, posting may be done for the night. But in case it's not - Minn. just took a lead in the top of the 13th. Hope they can hold on to it
