I'm off to the gym but will be back between 8 and 8:30. But the thread is open.

Good for you Ish. I'm not that motivated right now.

We're all supposed to be holding our breath for the Johnny Damon reaction...and he's not starting?

Zenslinger said...

Mmm. Bases loaded, no runs. Hrrrm.

Kathryn said...

Lester is getting hit hard tonight. (stating the obvious)

Zenslinger said...

Yeah. Yanks up over TB 2-0.

Laura is funny. She's the one least optimistic about making the playoffs, and yet insists on rooting for the Rays to beat the Yanks.

We had a grand old time at the game and hanging out on Wednesday.

Oswalt's given up three runs for his first start as a Phillie. I carry a bit of a torch for the Braves so am hoping the Phillies bite it.

WAS 3 - PHI 0

I bet it was fun spending time with them. It is amazing how internet groups come together. My 17-year-old son is a big follower of MGMT. They have a forum that he visits. Anyway, a group of them got together in Chicago for an MGMT concert and it was like they were good old friends. They are also headed to Lollapalooza next weekend. I understand the kinship given this blog.

I guess I have a strange relationship with meeting up with people from online. I was on 300-baud BBS's in junior high school, and meeting those people was really weird, a very charged thing. These days the experience of socializing online has become kind of normalized for me. I suppose it might make me nervous if I didn't know what to expect, but they were so themselves that it wasn't a huge surprise.

Laura mentioned something funny. She's observed that people our age (uh, 30's - 40's) are more attached to having an online handle or username. Allan and I were kind of wondering why we bother any more -- we're not exactly trying to hide our identities. But Laura said that younger readers of her blog don't use handles. As on Facebook, it's just the person's name. Generational thing.

I wouldn't mention it for reasons of superstition if I thought anyone had reason to be superstitious on behalf of the Blue Jays, and wouldn't even know it if he wasn't on my fantasy team, but Shawn Marcum has a perfect game after four innings. Jays are up 1-0 over the Big Donkey.

Kathryn said...

So, don't you think you'll jinx it for your fantasy team?

Kathryn said...

Really, 300-baud BBS? Wasn't that back with like Atari and Commodore? That would be some hard-core nerdy types.

Kathryn said...

Lesterdini!

Zenslinger said...

I don't believe in the jinx for my real team. But -- you're right -- maybe by some crazy logic I should therefore fear the jinx for the unreal team.

I'm talking about 1984-7, maybe. Just the fact of being able to communicate like that was so fascinating. I think us early adopters were less blown away as the Internet progressed, since the basic fact of the ability to communicate like that is so much of its appeal, however much better the technology is now.

Zenslinger said...

And Lester got outta the inning.

Kathryn said...

Off to get ice cream at DQ. I'll be back.

Zenslinger said...

Marcum's 5th inning: single, then someone reached on error. No stress on the win as Bautista hit a GS and they're up 7-0.

Kathryn said...

Ugh, "giant squander" as Castig just called it.

Zenslinger said...

This game is a real pisser.

Kathryn said...

Yep, that sucked.

SCOOTY DONG!

(this is allan)

Zenslinger said...

Scutaro power. Damn. Too bad the bases weren't loaded.

Zenslinger said...

I actually got to tell Allan about Scutaro's grand slam right after we met at the park. He's so unplugged...or so I thought.

Kathryn said...

Ouch, that's gotta hurt. I hate to see that.

Kathryn said...

Hi Laura! Hi to Allan!

allan said...

L says Hi from Windsor, CA!

(So do I, I suppose!)

allan said...

So ... just checking in before we head off to the rehearsal dinner (it started about an hour ago, but we were very late in getting up here).

Sox are 3-0 with us away from home. Keep the streak going.

Kathryn said...

That was a stinkin' good catch. Bummer.

Zenslinger said...

I'm off for the Giants game. Beat LA!

allan said...

Great time in SF and with Zen. Got to see The (infamous) Bar! Now I can stop picturing it as the Riviera. Unfortunately, our seats were in the sun and the back of my neck -- you know, those tomato-red shirts the Sox wear some days -- my neck is that color. Ouch.

And speaking of unplugged, we will be in Yosemite and totally without internet from Monday to Thursday. I guess we'll get caught up on things in the Oakland airport Thursday evening before the redeye.

Oh: Payless Rental Cars sucks!

Rob said...

Hi everyone!

Rob said...

My condolences to your neck, Allan! And your car. But have fun at Yosemite!

Sounds like California is the place to be right about now. I'm saying goodbye to my childhood best friend tomorrow who's leaving Sunday to drive out to Santa Cruz to start a new job.

MFY - 200 000
FKR - 000 003

Kathryn said...

Hey Ish.

Enjoy the game Zens.

Yosemite. That sounds great. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

allan said...

Zen gets to see Lincecum tonight.

Kathryn said...

It's not California, but my daughter is headed to Boston tomorrow and to the game on Sunday. (An early birthday present from her boyfriend.)

Rob said...

Bruise for Gallaraga.

Rob said...

So Beltre takes out our own players and Youk takes out the competition.

Rob said...

Although it seems all Youk can do is bruise 'em.

Rob said...

Glad Francona didn't let Lester go to pitch 124. Red Sox pitchers seem to have a hard time with that pitch.

Kathryn said...

I like seeing outs at the bases.

Amy said...

Hi, everyone! Just catching up with the game and the thread here.

Rob said...

Especially at home!

Rob said...

Hi there! Wish Lester had better stuff, but hey. You have an off-night sometimes. Gallaraga got drilled in the leg by a Yook liner and left with a bruise.

Kathryn said...

Hey Amy!

Amy said...

That's interesting about using fake names online. It never even occurred to me, and I am definitely of the older generation (even older than those in the 30-40 range). Perhaps I just am naive.

Amy said...

I am definitely rooting for the Rays to lose. (I would never say I am rooting for the Yankees to win.) Our only chance at the post season, IMHO, rests with a collapse of the Rays.

Amy said...

I haven't watched baseball in so long. It's sad. Too much time on the west coast for the team and in NY for me.

Amy said...

OK, guess it is quiet here now. That was a frustrating half inning.

Kathryn said...

Well, I'm shutting down the laptop for the night (running out of juice). See you tomorrow.

Amy said...

Good night, Mrs G. Guess I will check out also.

Rob said...

Yeah. This game sucks.

Rob said...

THIS GAME DOESN'T SUCK ANYMORE YET.

Kathryn said...

Close one. I wish Cameron hadn't looked at that third strike.
