MLB Playoffs Day 16: NLCS 5 - Phillies Elimination Day? 7:50 PM

Will today be Elimination Day for the Philadelphia Phillies? Their backs are against the wall after the Giants won Game 5 on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 9th by Aubrey Huff. Roy Oswalt volunteered to pitch the 9th on two days rest, with his next start coming on Saturday's Game 6, if there is a Game 6.

Tonight's game is a rematch of the highly anticipated matchup between the 2009 Cy Young, Tim Lincecum, and the favorite to win the award in 2010, Roy Halladay.

Neither pitcher was on his game in Game 1, with Lincecum slightly out-dueling Halladay:

Lincecum: 7 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 8 K
Halladay: 7 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 7 K

With Halladay trying to prevent elimination for his team and Lincecum trying to pitch his team to the World Series, tonight should be the pitcher's duel we all expected in Game 1 - perhaps even better than expected

I think the final score to be 1-0, but who wins? I don't know.

Supah freak! Supah freak!!!

...too much?

Rob said...

Bruins on the big TV, baseball on the little TV. But that'll only be for the first half of the game. Bruins are done around 9:30.

Rob said...

My mother once told me she doesn't like having two TVs in the living room. I told her "IT IS STAYING."

allan said...

did zen go to yesterday's game or is it tonight?

Rob said...

I'm not sure. I didn't know he was going to one.

allan said...

maybe he was just trying to go, i think it was game 4.

allan said...

a sox-jays alcs at skydome would be cool -- i will not hold my breath, however.

Rob said...

I wouldn't either. Long way from that happening, methinks.

allan said...

F the bunt

ex-sock knock

Rob said...

First inning struggles for Mr. Halladay, eh?

allan said...

wow - way outside to posey.

allan said...

1-0.

Rob said...

So far so good for my prediction...

Rob said...

I didn't think the one run was going to come in the first inning, though.

next time burrell is up, if there are 2 outs and no one on, he maybe should not dig in.

No plans to go to any games. We've been a little busy with disaster. Despite that, we're resting comfortably in a hotel, dealing with things and now watching the game. Here's my Facebook update for yesterday:

Massive fire in the building next door just before 5AM. I was lying half awake so I know how quickly it spread -- from zero to run for your life in about three minutes. Tia, the cat, and I all made it out fine, and no one was killed in the whole incident. We've been back in the apartment twice. It is blasted with water... and smoke damage, but most of our stuff still exists even if it smells like smoke. Who knows if we'll ever move back in. Civic, professional, and friend support has been amazing. My takeaways are: be grateful for life, and buy a shitload of insurance (we did).

Rob said...

Wow, Zen. That is terrible, I'm so glad you guys made it out safe. Fires are one of the scariest things to think about because they can happen at anytime.

allan said...

damn - glad every one is okay. that is some scary shit.

Zenslinger said...

Thanks guys. Water went downhill and through two buildings, and flooded The Bar. They hope to open tomorrow.

Rob said...

Wow, that was foul ball.

Rob said...

Zen, first your home then the bar? Insult to injury, man!

allan said...

fuckin bizarro inning

Rob said...

Whoa. Where did Tim Lincecum go?

Rob said...

Yeah. I mean, you can't blame this whole thing on Lincecum but he's still throwing the pitches and giving up hits now. What a shitty inning.

allan said...

i was going to say before the game that it seemed like the talk of blown calls has lessened. and i was wondering if that was true. and now we have a shitty call to kick-start this inning

Rob said...

Replay, challenges... they NEED to happen!

allan said...

L also says glad you are okay and good luck with everything. and go giants.

Rob said...

There have been blown calls but they haven't been in key points of the game. But there was the issue back in Philly of Utley being awarded first base when he didn't get hit, then caught stealing but was called safe, then was coming home and may not have stepped on third base...?

Then in Game 4 in the ALCS Swisher got hit on the leg but was it wasn't called.

allan said...

"right back thru the originator"

????

Rob said...

LOL wut? Haha

Zenslinger said...

Thanks to L. My wife is febreezing smoke stinking possessions.

Rob said...

Hmm. Here come the Giants?

Rob said...

Here come the Giants!

Rob said...

And there go the Giants...

allan said...

bad cody.

Rob said...

I wouldn't mind having Werth's arm on the Red Sox...

Rob said...

Bruins game just ended. They look amazing this season. This could be our year.

Rob said...

Just heard from a Maple Leafs/Jays fan on Twitter that John Farrell's going to be getting the Jays manager job...

Old Hickory tweeted earlier today: "Three GMs today insisted John Farrell will get the Toronto job. The final list was the product of exhaustive, thoughtful due diligence."

Article here.

allan said...

wish they had hired bogar instead.

Rob said...

Didn't care so much about Brad Mills leaving, but I'll be pissed to see Farrell go.

allan said...

lincecum setting down the phils - time to get some runs, giants

allan said...

ah - posey is like jeter
"the way he carries himself"

allan said...

wow - balls 3 and 4 REALLY close

Rob said...

I like the Johnny Bench comparison better.

Rob said...

Contreras still strikes me as a starter, but he's a reliever. It's confusing.

allan said...

i saw posey interviewed after the win last night and actually said he was sort of like jeter -- says absolutely nothing but empty bland cliches.

allan said...

i still see him as a pinata for the sox.

allan said...

panda time

Rob said...

Here come the Giants!

allan said...

mccarver: "panda finds a hole"

that sounds rude.

RAMRAM sighting

Rob said...

Plus side to the Giants being in the postseason: Being able to say Ram-Ram again.

tim said...

Holy shit, we got a thread going here! I really have to shut off the email notification, phones been buzzing off the hook all night like I'm some sort of important employee somewhere.

Rob said...

You should have listened to the play-by-play of the Bruins game. There are a TON of descriptions of plays that are dripping with innuendo.

Rob said...

Damn. If I had known that, Tim, I'd have spammed my own game thread!

Rob said...

...and there go the Giants. :\

tim said...

Bruins are looking fucking great so far, except the first game.

Damn Zen, that is a scary story. Glad to hear everyone is doing OK and safe...possessions can be replaced, family members, not so much.

allan said...

saswo

swinging at shit way outside

Rob said...

Sass-WHOA

allan said...

hold 'em here, i am feeling a giant dong next inning.

allan said...

(i.e., i will have my hand down my pants, jimy-style.)

tim said...

ha, i was thinking that if i ever need to appear "important", i should just subscribe to a game thread. make it seem like a ton of work emails are coming in or something.

hmm...maybe i'll do that for future family functions. then i up and leave at any time due to "work"

allan said...

dp pls on "ross blowing his gload"

allan said...

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

L3-DFP!

tim said...

wow, fine D.

Rob said...

Break some more shit, Gload!

That dude's got some anger issues.

"Hide the trash cans!" Okay, Joe, that was pretty funny.

Rob said...

First a TRASHED Steven Tyler doing the National Anthem at the Bruins game, and then this???

tim said...

allan said...

tim said...

Rollins just quit on that, weird.

tim said...

more red sox redux. romero.

allan said...

shit luck for the jints

Rob said...

So much for feeling your giant dong...

Rob said...

I should have made a list of ex-Red Sox in the postseason for this year. Maybe I still could.

allan said...

no, i'm feeling it...

Rob said...

tmi

tim said...

fuck it, sleep time. longest day ever.

allan said...

party boat! looks like fun.

Rob said...

Only series to not have any ex-Sox play was MFY/MIN

Rob said...

Runs, Giants! Runs!

allan said...

2+ runs + shoe polish save = pennant

Rob said...

16 ex-Red Sox have played in this postseason.

Orlando Cabrera
Bronson Arroyo
J.C. Romero
Alex Gonzalez
Derek Lowe
Eric Hinske
Billy Wagner
Freddy Sanchez
Ramon Ramirez
Javier Lopez
Edgar Renteria
Darren Oliver
David Murphy
Rocco Baldelli
Kelly Shoppach
Carlos Pena

...no Yankees were ex-Sox, for the first time in forever (or so it seems)

allan said...

madson dealing - day-yum.

ramram in.

Rob said...

I missed most of that inning counting ex-Sox. Oops.

allan said...

bambam off ramram

Rob said...

Well fuck.

I'd love to have his bat on our team, too.

Rob said...

ramram looks like he has no neckneck

Rob said...

Last licks.

Rob said...

The Panda moves around really well for, well, a Panda. Amazing that he's a third baseman.

allan said...

so pennants will be won in game 6s.

Rob said...

Yep.

Much better thread tonight!

YED tomorrow!
